Brrrrr.... I thought it was cold in Canada!!!!!

What a week in France, particularly Paris! Everyday it was around 0 to -12 each day. I know that sounds like nothing compared to home, however, it felt like -40!! The cold here is very bitter and it bites HARD! Not to mention the fact that we didn't bring our warmest parka's! Cold or not, we were seeing the beautiful sights of Paris! We arrived on Friday and we started at the Invalides. This is where the musee de l'arme was located as well as a church, World War exhibits and the dome. The dome is where Napoleans tomb is kept which is the centre of attraction at Invalides. After about 4 hours we made our way to the military school, which is at the beginning of Champs de Mars (a huge field with trees parallel on each side where many fights and battles took place). We walked down the Champs de Mars and ended at the Eiffel tower where we were planning on climbing to the top, however, it was closed due to frost! Seriously!?!? This was our second time here and I was closed AGAIN!! Ugghh! Oh well, I guess I'll HAVE to come back!! :) believe me.. I don't mind visiting the Eiffel tower over and over again!! So then we decided to head over to Champs Élysées, which is one of the most famous streets for its shopping and beauty! The Arc de Triomph is located at the beginning of the street and it ends with a "PARIS wheel" ... I know pretty clever name for a ferris wheel. We headed straight for the first pizza joint we found and man it was good!! Saturday found us all over Paris and by the way, the metro is unbelievable for many reasons! We went to a cemetery where Oscar Wilde, Jim Morrison and many others are buried. There were over 100,000 graves and 1,000,000 over 4.5 hectares of land! Wow! We went and sat in on a mass at Sacre Coeur, which is the most visit tourist spot in Paris with 10,000,000 visitors a year. We also visited Montemartre which is an area in Paris where you can find things like Moulin Rouge, Sacre Coeur, and the red light district. Also, at the last very minute we entered the Catacombes. This is an underground area, 24 feet deep, that is home to over 6,000,000 people; dead of course. It is unexplainable... Definitely something to see. Then we finished the day off by actually walking up the Eiffel tower. Yes, after 700 steps, we were at the top...well as far as we could walk. We took the lift up to the summit and boy it was cooollllddd. It felt like I was never once warm or even felt slightly warm. Anyways, the view was absolutely incredible and when we were at the summit, the lights we flashing on the tower (something that happens on the hour, every hour after dark). I will never forget the feeling of being on top of the Eiffel tower... Check that off my bucket list! Then brings Sunday... After pretty much sleeping with all my jackets on and beside a radiator... I was a bit warmer. We took the metro over to the Notre Dame Cathedral and attended the morning mass. Wow, what a church! It was sooo breathtakingly beautiful and definitely something to see! We finished our weekend off by visiting the Louvre. This is home to the Mona Lisa, Nike statue, the Sphynx and many other works done by famous artists. It is absolutely massive and is definitely for people who love Art! It's best to spend two days here to really see everything! So this concluded our weekend in Paris and it was an hour train back to our little town of Nemours where we could finally try and get warm!
